i have a RES and i made an account here because im concerned. my RES can’t seem to open her mouth but she bumps the food like she’s trying to eat. she doesn’t have swollen eyes or any sign of sickness she simply just can’t open her mouth and im worried. last night i also found that she had laid around 6 eggs. she has laid eggs before with no issue. she has a sibling (probably male it hasn’t laid any eggs ever) and her sibling is kept in a separate tank exactly the same with no issues so i have no idea why her jaw won’t open

Can you post a picture? Is there any discoloration? Does she still bask?

can’t get a picture right now because i’m in my college class but she had no discoloration and was basking like normal

Is it possible that her beak is overgrown? What's her diet like?

it doesn’t appear to be overgrown and her sibling is older with no issues their diet consists of Tetra ReproMin food sticks and Zoo Med Red Shrimp

update, i’ve noticed a weird bubble looking lump on top of her neck. you can kind of see it in the photo i posted a link to

From the picture, every thing looks fine. Have you tried temping her with a treat? Or even agitating her?

i’ve tried feeding by hand multiple times and she can open her mouth a tiny bit but since she’s used to opening it all the way her aim is way off.

I think she needs to be examined by a vet (herp or exotics). It's definitely an usual situation but I would also keep track of her weight. Does she beg for food?
