Hey!

I have a baby res for about 3-4 months now (dont know his exact age). Today i noticed that the part of his shell right above his tail is soft. Rest of his shell is fine.
I feed him primarily saki hikari turtle pellets and have fed him chicken liver only twice.
His name is groot, and has a exo tera solar glo uva + uvb ballasted basking light, though he prefers to stay in the water mostly and very rarely every basks. He is very active whenever he sees someone and immediately starts begging. His appetite is also normal and have seen no change.

Is this normal? Or is this the sign of some kind of deficiency?

I took a look at his care sheet and looks like i should get him a calcium supplement and make him bask more.
He barely basks and when he does he tends to keep himself partially submerged. Is that ok? How long should a turtle bask in a day?

A hatchling shell will be slightly pliable. You can probably skip the liver. Do you have a picture of the whole setup? Does the hikari pellets contain calcium? What are the temperature for the basking area? As for basking, there is no set time but 2-6 hours is pretty good.

Till how long are turtles considered hatchlings? And only that portion of his shell is pliable. Here is the turtle pellet i use
Hikari Turtle Pellets Fish Food (Medium Long), 567g https://www.amazon.in/dp/B00SJ1NRIO/ref ... VBbN58KKS2

It doesn’t mention anything about calcium, but multiple aquarium store owners in my area swear by it and say this is all i ever need to feed the turtle.

Ill post a picture of the setup soon. Basking area temp is between 35-40 celcius.

Usually the first year they are considered hatchlings. A good pellet is the right start, but you will need to add more variety to the diet... this can be in the form of treats and when he gets older, more vegetables which will be a staple.
