UPDATE: just got home... vet said that based on what she was seeing and my descriptions that he does not needed an xray right now and that she thinks it was mostly due to the shedding. She said to keep an eye on him and if he starts having mucus or swimming funny, or stops eating to bring him back. She said it may continue for a bit until he sheds his plastron. She said her own turtles have done this before... otherwise, he is a healthy weight and he looks great.

I don't think there is any connection to behavior changes and scute shedding. Either way, they do have mood changes on occasion. Glad to know he's much better!
