Help Fortaz Injections

I have a sick red ear slider. Has been to vet. did xrays and blood work. Initially put on 5 fortaz injections (1 shot every 3 days). Blood work has come back and vets office has called wanting turtle to be put on daily Fortaz injections for a few more days, then 1 injection every 3 days for a few weeks. Turtles white blood cell count not good and vet has actually consulted with a specialist who has suggested long term Fortaz shots. Has anyone here had luck with these injections? My turtle has been ill for a few months, but in last two months is now refusing all food, now the last month not basking, not swimming, and is sleeping all the time. I've been putting him outside for an hour or hour and a half everyday to force bask. Is this too little too late with Fortaz? I would appreciate any opinion or help, because quite honestly a part of me says to stop and just let him go. He's not a young turtle and I have no idea how old he is. The injections are about $40 a pop. If they actually work I will do it. I just fear turtle is too far gone. Don't know what to do.

Sorry to hear about your turtle :( I have not had to use it before, but it is supposed to be a good drug. To be honest, I do not know if it will help your situation but you know him better than anyone. You should consult further with his vet, I would at least see if his white blood cell count goes up.

I'm going to try the injections and see how he responds. Vet hasn't given me any prognosis but it's early. Just worried about prolonging situation. Hopefully he'll get better. Thanks.

Reptiles are more difficult to diagnose and treat. Your vet sounds pretty good, I hope all goes well.

Despite 11 injections my RES Clyde died. My only advice to anyone suspecting their turtle is sick is not to play the wait and see game. Get them to a herp vet. I won't be getting another turtle. These guys are complicated. Just providing a good habitat is difficult. best of luck to everyone and their turtles here.
