Hello,

I've recently adopted two RES one male and one female. They are both about 2 years old.

One of them came home with what looked like scratches on the shell. I thought it was normal scuff and it would heal over time.

In the next couple of days i notice that the other turtle also got white stuff on the shell. He also have what looks like wound or scratches or shedding on the two front legs and tail (i'm not sure what it is).

Can someone please help us and take a look to see if we should bring them to the vet?

the water temperature has been at 76F and basking temp is at 85F

We have a really good filter so the water has been very clean.

I took water sample to get checked at petsmart and they said it is good for turtles.

Edit: Also, the male turtle seems to bask and falls to sleep for a long time. When I try to wake him up, it seems like he can't open his eyes unless I put him in water. Is this normal? Do they take a while to open their eyes after sleeping? Occasionally he will blink with one day. We got the water tested and it's fine. No other symptoms.

Thank you for any input

Hard to tell from the pictures... does it feel rough when you touch it? Falling asleep when basking is normal, though most of the times they are pretty alert. I'll keep an eye open for other symptoms but double check the basking temperatures as well.

It doesn't feel rough when I touched it.

Also, for the male turtle, I notice that when I come near him as he sleeps, he does notice me and move his head around. But it seems like that he can't open his eyes. Sometimes, only have one open. Only when I put some water droplets on his eyes, he will be able to open again. Is that normal?

I wouldn't be surprised if he were like that from sleeping for a long time basking but again, I'd re-check the temperatures.

Dxniellee, I think that might be an infection or possibly an injury.
