I have 5 turtles in a 40 gallon tank. 2 of them are about 2 and a half years old or so (rough estimate, Ive had them for 6 months and was told by the girl at the petshop they were about 2) and 2 hatchlings that I ordered online, 2 red eared babies and one yellow belly slider. I just found today one of them floating by the filter, for a second I thought he was playing in the waterfall then I realized he wasnt moving at all. This is so sad and I have no idea what killed him, I put plenty of food in there and the temperature is right at 80 degrees. It was at 72 degrees for about a day or two but thats it. The other 4 turtles seem to be doing ok. Hes dead but his eyes look swollen, my best guess would be he died from RI. I feel terrible as I never noticed any of them were sick and I wonder if I could have saved the cute little guy if I would have noticed but just days ago all the kids were hanging out basking together, seemed to be doing great etc.

Oh man

RIP little guy :(

Sorry to here you lost one. It's possible he was killed or got stuck in something. Larger and smaller turtles should not be mixed in together, especially hatchlings. 40 gallon is pretty small, maybe it's OK for a yearling or medium sized male. The water could be warmer too, do you have a heater?
