Turtle splashes around like crazy and does not want to bask?

So my turtle is about 1.5 years old, I got him a little over a year ago when he was a baby. Recently he's been waking me up early in the morning by swimming into the side of his tank and splashing water like crazy. It looks like he is trying to climb out of the tank. Then he does it again at night around 9 or 10. Most of the time he stops when I feed him but sometimes he will keep doing this for about an hour after I feed him more than enough. Is he just doing this because he wants more food? He also rarely basks. When I first got him I caught him multiple times a day basking but now I don't ever see him bask. I haven't changed his basking area and I have recently gotten a new lightbulb for the lamp. I just wanted to see if anyone else experienced this and if there's anything I should be doing differently.
