Hello,

I have a red eared slider and a musk turtle. I noticed yesterday when I went to feed my musk turtle that it was sleeping, so i poked it several times and then it woke up but very slowly, not as fast as I'd expect it to. Today, I went to feed it again and it did not eat once again. Both days my red eared slider has eaten just fine. My musk turtle's reflexes are also slower, too.

Is this some sort of hibernation? she still basks on the shack I made her and moves around some, but really sleeps much more then usual. My water is a bit cold from all the cool weather down here in south Florida. I do not have a water heater because my room is usually warm from my computers.

She never has acted this way before. Could it be filtration? Cold water? I'm not sure but I'm afraid that if she won't eat and still moves around that she'll starve.

I have a picture of her. Please let me know if you need a better one.

I'd bump up the temperatures first.

72- 78 is generally recommended for most aquatic turtles.. 75 should be fine I would think. Is she still sluggish and not eating?

she seems to be eating now at least so I'm happy about that. I don't know why she acted so weird for a few days though..

I hate to be "that guy", but isn't that some kind of map turtle?

Glad to hear she is doing better.. Phil was acting weird one day, I have him in my living room.. So we are constantly watching him.. And he wasn't swimming around or climbing on basking area.. He did eat though strangely enough.. But I thought I hope he isn't sick.. I got up to check the tank temp and it was down too 66.. how it got that low I have no idea.. He is not sitting on an exterior wall and the inside house temp is 72. But since that day, I have decided to keep his tank heater on. Since I can't figure out why the temps dropped so low.. So it could have possibly been the water temps had dropped below the 70 mark and she just slowed down. Hopefully, it was as simple as that.. :)

I was probably told the wrong kind haha

But one last question instead of making another thread is how come my yellow bellied slider turtle (my other one) is having pyramids on her shell and bacteria is growing inside of it. What do I do? I have a picture

I'd need larger/closer pics to look at but retained scutes take an abnormally long time to shed. Leaving water and debris trapped that long leads to infection.

Ok sorry for the late response

I will post another pic up when I'm not sick. I do not want to touch them now, I'm afraid I'll get them sick

You'll need to have your strength, they are such squirmers and scratchers :)

Since it looks like it's been retained for awhile, you should do periodic checks and cleanings. Any sign of them shedding?

What do you mean by cleanings?

By shedding do you mean skin coming off of them?
