We found a female RES in my back yard, she was in our pond, and is very hurt and likely very sick.
Her back feet are missing and look infected. Her left eye is very swollen and looks infected too. I have an appointment to take her to the vet Monday, but for now I have her in a dry 10 gallon with a heat lamp and small dish of water. She has barely moved but seems much better since being inside from the cold. Until I can get her to the vet, What can I do to make her comfortable and keep her from getting worse???

Keep things quiet and clean. I'd gently clean the wounds (diluted betadine) then apply some antibiotic ointment (neosporin). You should rehydrate her a couple of times a day. Have you looked into an rescues who might deal with this immediately?

Just over night she's gotten an attitude and is way more alert so I'm feeling quite relieved that's she's maybe not as sick as we thought. Her back legs are bleeding probably from her trying to use them, but I'll go pick up bentadine and neosporin(all we have is the triple antibiotic off brand, not sure if that'll do???) And from what I know we don't have a rescue near us :/ the nearest one is too far to drive to and they may not come here to pi k her up, but I can call.

I wanted to update. The vet gave us some antibiotic cream for her legs and drops for her eye. He believes she'll make a full recovery. He gave us a list of rescues in our area that may be able to take her.

Thanks so much guys!!

It looks like there's exposed bone in the second picture, is it still like that?
