Hi all, I am new here. I just created an account because of an issue which I perceives to be urgent, of my red eared slider.
Please refer to this link for the video of her "coughing" in action: https://youtu.be/7Aglzr23Ewk
THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ARE EXTRACTED DIRECTLY FROM THE VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Details about her and her habitat:
- 3 years old, 7.3 inch shell, 900 grams female slider.
- ReptiGlo 5.0 25W UVB light is used, approximately 30cm away from the nearest edge of the basking platform.
- 108 gallon pond, but half-filled. Eheim 2217 filter.
- Climate in my town is always ranging from 25 to 33 degrees Celsius, so temperature is not an issue.
- 80% water change once a fortnight, so water cleanliness should not be an issue.
Description of symptom:
- Tsavorite "coughs" when she is basking. However, this does not rule out the possibility that she might have "coughed" underwater (since I will not be able to hear that).
- She does not exhibit the same symptom when I bring her out to roam my living room, though it may be that such an incident of "coughing" coincidentally failed to occur during such periods.
- Note that the snorting occurs around the 3.5 second mark, halfway into the video. It is accompanied by a "cough-like" reflex, as shown by Tsavorite opening her mouth for a brief while (the video has failed to capture a direct shot of her mouth since she turned away to "cough").
I would appreciate you guys' help in identifying the possible causes of this problem which has bothered me for some time, but of which I failed to capture on video until today. Hopefully this is just a common occurrence for sliders and is nothing to worry about:-)
Edit: There are no other symptoms such as: Loss of appetite, lethargy, mucus discharge, etc.
