Thank you for your time!

How big is your turtle? 3 inches & 2 Inches
How long have you had it? 1 week (Parents for 1 year or so) The bigger one was given to us, the smaller one was found by my dad
in a pool abandoned and no pond near by, so he brought it home, they are of different ages (Not sure how old the big one is).
What is the water temperature? 74F (Heater in 2 days)
Did you use a thermometer? Yes
Are you using a water heater? Soon
How much water is in there? 7/8's of a 10 Gallon tank
Are you using a water conditioner? Yes.
Are you using any filtration? Yes.

What is the basking temperature?
Is there a basking light? 78F
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? Yes.
What kind is it or what is it made out of? Zoo Med Turtle Dock
Is there a UVB light? No - Coming tomorrow

What have you been trying to feed it? Tetra Reptomin 3 In 1 Food (Walmart)
When was the last time your turtle ate? Yesterday @ 6pm

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 10GAL
Is the tank near a window? 10 Feet away
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? My living room, very little
just me and girlfriend.

Have you read the Basic Care section? Yes.
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? Yes.

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? Nothing that I can think of.

So here's the story, turtles have been with parents for about a year, my
little sisters love animals, but as most kid, easily forget about the "new
toy" especially I would say turtles, since turtles don't play with humans.

Therefore, I bought them a 10gallon tank a while back since the turtle had
outgrown the little plastic beach they had.

I never took importance to it, until I kept visiting and seeing they had
no food, water level was low, filter was dirty and I decided they were not
responsible enough to care. (Too much technology)

If you've read this far, thank you for your time.

So here I am, I've read as much as I can online without being bored from
your awesome forums and myturtlecam.com which is pretty informative (as
far as I can see)

I'm obviously planning to use an old tank my parents have from a few years
back, sanitize it down, cure it, set it up, leave it up for 2-3 days while
I balance the water to make sure it's perfect. Then move my little guys
over.

I'm very passionate about any animal. I dislike any mistreatment and
therefore I am willing to do anything I can to start making sure they are
as happy as they can be.

With no delay is, before I visit a vet and spend a few bucks on a visit I
want to know if there's anything to worry about. I may not even need to
visit a vet if you guys think they look good and just need the proper
lights (UVB,UVA,Basking) and better food (Which I will take some
recommendations)

Once more, thank you for your time.

I wasn't able to get the smaller one dried up completely for pictures she was very active and impatient. Large one, my girlfriend was home when she was basking and took pictures that show more of my concerns.

These guys look like little cuties!

How big is this old tank? I have Sheldon (she's 7 inches) and she has a 75 gallon tank, all to herself. If you have two turtles in one tank, you'll need a lot of room. Especially since they can get on each other's nerves sometimes.

The little guy looks like he's ready to shed some scutes. I don't see anything but to be honest a first vet visit is a good idea. You get a baseline for what conditions they may or may not have and the vet can give you ideas for treating anything or preventing medical things. Then if they ever have to go back, the vet will know what is different.

Good luck!!

I don't know much about sizes, what size tank do you think I should get, if this isn't suitable for them.

Take some measurements of the exterior dimensions. It looks like a 40 but a good way to confirm it would be to do Volume = Height X Length X Depth do it in inches then you can convert inches cubed to gallons.

This will be a good start considering the size of the little guys. Usually they say 10 gallons per inch of turtle - Now that will get really huge for two turtles so you probably don't need to get anything too big just yet. I would look to get a 75 gallon or 100 gallon - only if you have the proper floor for it though. Those tanks will come with furniture but that won't help if the floor won't support the weight.

I would get a canister filter to handle the water. I have a Fluval which works great. To save yourself some money, go as big as you can, then when you replace the tank with a larger one, you won't necessarily have to replace the filter.

I'm currently living in a third floor apartment that's pretty new I believe 2005 but I wouldn't risk getting a large aquarium.

I've found a few people that will take the turtles once they're big enough to their huge pool size pond, (If I ever get rid of them) - I might buy a house and build a pond myself someday.

So back to the topic, they look okay? Nothing major, and everything that is needed for them, lights, heater, etc is coming soon.

I'm buying river rocks soon as well to replace the current gravel that is there. I've seen them take a bite and spit it right out, but I'm not willing to take any chances.

First... cut back on the pellets. Maybe give them about 1/2 of what will "fill their head" of empty. Put it in a pill box and let family members know they don't get more than that. Be conservative with their protein... when in doubt, feed less of it.

The tank... I'd say it looks like its in rough shape. A leaky tank is not good for anybody, you might be better off getting a new tank. New ones are roughly a $1 per gallon for up to 55 gallons. Keep in mind new tanks can leak too, just be very careful. I would not be concerned about your floor supporting a 100 gallon tank, but it might be against your lease or something.

Steve brings up a good point - I cleared the 75 gallon tank with my leasing agent and maintenance guys before I bought it. Double check your lease agreement before proceeding with a larger tank.

Thanks for the heads up Steve.

Currently it's just me and my girlfriend in the apartment, so no one else will feed them but me. I threw in some fish in there (exercise) for them little fast ones, two days they've only been able to catch one.

I will feed them less for sure.

I can't seem to find anywhere to buy an aquarium for $1 a gallon, but I will begin to look online and go to craiglist / Thrift stores. I wouldn't want to risk that tank bursting on me or leaking while I'm not home.

Once more, thank you for your time.

Update: I found an awesome person on craiglist willing to sell me their 55 Gallon tank for well under $100 bucks with a few includes like pump, heater etc.
I will post pics as soon as I have this unit up and running on another thread!

Petco usually has it during spring, summer, and winter. Many of the other chains like Petsmart match it. Some local fishstores will as well.

If you pick up a used filter. you should replace all the media inside. Not sure what else it will come with, I guess we'll check it out later.

Awesome! Which one did Sheldon get? What brands are they offering? All-Glass? Tetra? Aqueon? I think I heard the Aqueons have leaking issues and the Tetras are kinda thin on the glass. I have not yet checked it out yet.

I got a Marineland. They were on sale this past February.

This is my set up. :)

I've added a circulation pump in the far left corner to avoid troubles with water circulation.
