Hi. For the past few days my baby turtle has her eyes shut. This morning we took her to a vet, they gave her some shots... Now, i was waiting in the car so i dont really know what happened.. But i do remember the vet saying today will be a hard day for her... She was swimming healthy, eyes stll shut until we came home. I have experience with a dead turtle but im not sure that a stiff turtle is dead.. Maybe its because of the shots or the medicene? i dont know.. Im very worried and i dont want to have another turtle dead.. Please reply ASAP, Thank you so much.

Yes, the vet said it will be really bad for today and tomorrow it should be fine.. But she is still stiff and now there is a black thing that looks like a star on its nose.. We will take her to the vet tomorrow.. We have a UVB light and we are new to turtles so.. I'm not really sure what's happening :/ hibernation or something maybe? Because when my other turtle died she wasn't stiff...... This turtles eyes are not sunken, they look healthy :/.

Oh, and if you would like to know what kind of shots the vet gave her, they found out she was low on calcium and other stuff, she is a baby maybe it was too hard on her...? :(

Now she Isint as warm, she is normal. Still stiff ( like, frozen or something ) however, no stink, no rotting, no sunken eyes ( though the eyes are kinda pink ) so I think the turtle is in like a lockdown or something, the vet gave her vitamin shots and ALOT of energy, I'm guessing it's the medicine and it will be alright tomorrow but I'm really worried.. My son is already crying.

Sorry to hear it, is she moving? As to not being warm, they are cold-blooded, so their temperature is dependent on their environment. I'm not sure what your vet gave her, many vets don't treat hatchlings as it can be difficult to know what's going on.

She is dead now, it finally stunk so bad and her eyes are sunken, she moved her head before she started to black out and die... see, the thing is after we got both our hatchlings we were low on money for a few weeks, when we finally got the UVB light our first turtle died, that left this one. After a few weeks her eyes started to close, after 4 days we got a heat light, everything was set but her eyes were still closed, we went to the vet and yeah now this... Since we got everything set we decided to get one more turtle because we know everything now! We also got everything! But it is so sad what happened :( I dont want to see another turtle dead so i will do a triple check of everything we got before we get the turtle, see health facts and everything! They are totally dependent of us so i want to make sure this goes well now :(

I'm don't know where you got them from but don't get them there again! Chances are its not your fault at all. They were probably sick from the breeder or seller. You can try kingsnake.com for a good breeder. If your looking at a hatchling. If your willing to buy a larger turtle petco has some nice turtles and you can pick the sex.Males will have fat tails compared to females. Males also are smaller in size. You really can't pick a sex if its a hatchling. Sorry about your losses.

I agree with Kansasslider, they are usually sick to begin with. That plus some hatchlings cannot deal with captivity and the stress is too great. Sorry for your loss.

I hope someday sellers like that can't exist. I'm not sure the right people know how big of a problem it is? I also think a lot of people just think "its just a turtle" That's another problem. :-(
