Hey everyone, first post. Quick summary:
I have an 8 year old female slider. Just found out she was a female this year as she has never laid eggs before until I just moved out west this year. She laid 5 sets of eggs, somewhere around 35 total. She is still acting frantic and erratic as she was before laying eggs but I have x-ray verified that there are no more. She constantly swims against the glass when she sees me come into the room and she splashes and flails her arms at the water surface, similar to pre-eggs but a tad less frantic as she isn't trying to climb out of the tank anymore. Something odd I noticed is that when I feed her over the last few weeks since the last egg laying, she goes bonkers and doesn't wait for the food to drop and stands on her legs and starts biting at the pellet container. If I place it on the screen across her tank, she stands on hind legs and stretches out trying to frantically get to the food container. It takes her 10 seconds or so to even realize she is surrounded by food in the water because she is so tunnel vision on the container. She has never acted frantically famished like this before. The vet doesn't know exactly what is up, she recommended I buy a multi vitamin dropper to use a couple of times a week, she also mentioned it could be some sort of uterine irritation that could need antibiotic shots or it could be a mental thing that she thinks she still needs to lay eggs (apparently some birds do this?), but that doesn't explain the feeding change. Like I said, she is acting similar but slightly different than egg time. The vet seems to be just guessing. As a turtle parent I know something is off just as I figured out something was off when he/she suddenly needed to lay eggs. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Thank you all!
