Donnie is bleeding!!!!

I came home from work about 20 min ago, and Donnie is bleeding! It looks like she tried to escape from her tank, and bashed her chin on the edge. I have removed her from the tank, and she is still bleeding. I'm not sure if it will stop bleeding on its own, if she needs to be dry-docked, or if she needs to see a vet. Please help!

Is it just her chin bleeding?

The problem is that since she keeps moving around, and its still bleeding, its going everywhere on her neck and front legs.

do you have any betadine solution? If so you can put some on to keep it from getting infected. hydrogen peroxide mixed 50 50 with water will also do a good job of that

I don't have either of those, but I can definitely get some. I managed to find a vet with an opening tomorrow morning too.

Nice to see you really care for your pet. It might be superficial but its ok to play it safe anyway.

Thanks! The bleeding has now stopped, thankfully. She's definitely staying in her box tonight though. And I'll have to figure out a good way to avoid this from happening again.

Your welcome. Have you posted pictures of your tank? If not please do. Sounds like she will be ok. Let us know what the vet says if you take her tomorrow.

Was it her chin rubbing against something or was it from a fall?

I'm not sure at this point what it was from- I'm thinking it was a fall. Vet said that she's a healthy weight (1.3kg), and she's otherwise fine, but since its an open wound still, Donnie is now going to be on antibiotics! we'll see how this works out.... also, realized that she may be trying to escape due to it being nesting season, so i've bought some play sand and I'll be making her a little sandbox to go play. Thanks for the tips guys! On the upside, I can now highly recommend the vet at My Zoo in Columbia MO. She seemed competent with turtles, and asked all the questions that were mentioned in the vet area of this site.
