Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum and wanted to see what you thought about a change in behavior today in my male RES. I've only had him about eight months, but I know from the previous owner that he is approximately 20 years old. Prior to today, he always has lots of energy, will swim around his tank, eagerly greets me and my family members when we come to the tank by swimming over and following us, basks regularly, eats well.

This morning i found him asleep on his basking platform (basking and uv light were off at the time and he was dry so he had to have been up there a while). This was unusual because he usually sleeps on a piece of driftwood submerged in his tank. I turned on his basking and uv light, and he opened his eyes and looked at me like, "hey! I'm trying to sleep here!" He went in the water to his normal sleeping spot, so I turned his lights back off and let him "sleep in." I checked on him about an hour later and he was swimming so I turned his lights back on.

As I have watched him through the day, he seems very lethargic, has been sleeping and/or sitting on his driftwood a lot, swimming much slower than usual, and is very slow to greet us when we go to the tank.

Nothing in his tank has changed. The water temp is 76, basking temp 88. He ate very well at his last feeding (last night). I cannot see any obvious signs of injury. The only thing I can think of was that we are currently trying to sell our house and had a steady stream of showings yesterday (like 10 in a row between 9 a.m. And 4p.m.) and that may have been a lot of stimulus for him since his tank is kept in a main area of our house where people would be constantly walking by him.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe add a privacy curtain for him. A lot of our RES are a bit less social over the winter period, has the owner mentioned that to you before?

The privacy curtain is a great idea. He seems better today. Maybe he was just exhausted like the rest of us lol. Thanks for your help.
