Need some help ,
Our dog was out in the garden and brought in a turtle , I'm guessing it's a red eared slider but not 100% on this,
I am new to the area and to turtles !

Anyway I'm not sure what to do now , I've posted on local reptile page got no responses ,

His shell is a mess on the under side ,

I know as he grows it will sort of grow out at least becoming less of an issue , but is he to vulnerable to let go?

Not sure what to do .

Any local streams or ponds around? Are you sure it's a male? You might want him taken to a local rescue or herp vet for examination and let them decide what to do.

There are ponds across the street where the other red sliders and other turtles live ,

Can you get red eared sliders with no red ?
I would post a photo but I'm not really sure how.

No Idea on his sex just calling it he instead of it ,
I don't know much about them and I'm new to the area so don't know anywhere to take him , I tried google for rescues but couldn't find any local ,

I have him in a tank tonight I thought I'd see how he is in the morning if he's not died of shock ,

I'm thinking of calling the local zoo I don't know if they would take him but I do know they have ponds and wild turtles and less roads and dogs than my street .
When things calmed down I've had a better look and
His injurys all seem to be on the shell , his head legs and tail are all good , seems the dog was chewing where his head comes out of the shell and broke some bits of shell off there looks a bit jagged , :-/

And the bottom of his shell is scratched up all over and thin looking :-/

On top of the shell I see one puncture wound from a canine tooth ,

I think considering my dog (a malamute) has a huge mouth it's amazing there isn't more damage ,
Also I hope no one thinks bad of me or my dog she was in our fenced in yard and had only been out there maybe 5 minutes when our other dog started barking and we realized something was going on ,

Yes, not all RES have red "ears". There's a link to post pics in my signature.
