We recently bought 2 baby red ear sliders (about 1 inch), and one was lost - we're fairly certain my cat batted him around. This was 13 days ago. I found him today.

How big is your turtle? 1 inch
How long have you had it? 14 days

What is the water temperature? I filled his enclosure with about 80F water
Did you use a thermometer? Yes
Are you using a water heater? No, sunlight
How much water is in there? Enough to drink but not drown
Are you using a water conditioner? No
Are you using any filtration? No, I refill the tank.

What is the basking temperature? sunlight
Is there a basking light? Sun
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? Yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? Sun
Is there a UVB light? Sun

What have you been trying to feed it? Nutrafin basix pellets
When was the last time your turtle ate? I don't know - lost for 13 days. Maybe not at all in that time.

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 20 gallon
Is the tank near a window? Yes
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? Sometimes

Have you read the Basic Care section? Reading it now
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? I am now

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms?

When I found him he was on his back and was not righting himself. He was barely moing but did move when touched, and when picked up tucked into his shell. I've put him in a small amount of water. I set him on his basking area in direct sunlight and he stayed there 5-10 minutes, slowly moved into a superman pose to bask, then moved into the shade and slid into the water (shaded spot), still superman (<1cm deep). I filled it that low because I was concerned about his lack of movement - I didn't want him to drown if he was too weak to move. His shell has some reddish discolorations. I put some pellets into the water but he has not eaten them yet. He moves around slightly in the water but not much.

You should try feeder fish or something smelly/wiggly (tuna, worms, etc.). He's gone two weeks without food or heat, so getting him to eat is the best thing you can do.

Windows filter out UVB, so you'll need to get a UVB lamp asap. Sunlight as a heat source causes temperature fluctuations, and you really need to get an exact temperature on the basking area, if it's not warm enough, he won't be enticed to go up there (probably why he just decided to get back in the water), especially if it's starving and lethargic as it is.

Thanks for the tip about windows - I'll leave them open for now since he's in a bay window spot. I'm strapped for cash at the moment but I'll be getting a heat source/uvb lamp as soon as I can.

He's been somewhat more active since my first post. I haven't directly observed him eat but I've tossed in some pellets and spinach, I think he's taken nibbles now and then. He's definitely pooped, I can tell that by the water. He's swimming enough that I'm filling up the level in the tank back to normal, I haven't noticed a problem with him breathing that I could tell. I'm pretty hopeful because he's still alive and moving around.

You can use a regular 60w incandescent light bulb for a heat source in th meantime.

Try giving him a soak in a solution that is half water and half undiluted Pedialyte. Maybe leave some crumbled pellets in there too... don't use spinach. He'll also be interested more in live foods like minnows and guppies.
