Hi,
I am a whole lot of freaked out, My 18 yr old Res has just laid an egg fro the first time. I took it to a vet about 10 years ago, who said Ozzie was a boy.
Clearly not the case. He/She is about 6" wide and 8 " long. I have had her since she was smaller than a dime. I am not sure if anything else needs to be done for her,
she has always been in a 40gl. tank, half full, with a climbing rock in the corner about 9" X 7". I am scared that if I suddenly change the environment after 18yrs its going to cause more harm than good.
Any suggestions.

Try to feel for more eggs. If she is gravid, she has to lay them in a nest or expel them in the water. Has she produced any signs of being gravid?

Females... single or with a tank make can become gravid. We don't understand what role, if any, environmental conditions play in it.
