Urgent Care :: Davis has bloody swollen eyes :(

This morning Davis' eye was a little red and when I got back home from work it is swollen and looks bloody. Also looks like under the blood there is a kind of thick white mucus looking film. He is also not eating as much as normal and is not nearly as playful. He can not see at all out the eye and seems to be a little scared when he sees something from the other eye. I am not sure if it would be a scratch that could have gotten infected or other health problems but makes me nervous that it changed so drastically in one day. He is in the tank with one other turtle and Anthony is completely fine. I am going to see about taking him to be seen but in the mean time, any advice on what it could possibly be would be great. Separate the turtles first. Also, can you answer the questions in Urgent Care? Also post a picture, and try to find a herp vet asap.

How big is your turtle?
How long have you had it?

What is the water temperature?
Did you use a thermometer?
Are you using a water heater?
How much water is in there?
Are you using a water conditioner?
Are you using any filtration?

What is the basking temperature?
Is there a basking light?
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on?
What kind is it or what is it made out of?
Is there a UVB light?

What have you been trying to feed it?
When was the last time your turtle ate?

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure?
Is the tank near a window?
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity?

Have you read the Basic Care section?
Have you searched the forums for similar situations?

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms?

I'd separate them first. These are usually related to injury, but can also be Vitamin A or UVB related too.

How much water is in there? The tank is full-75 gallon tank-

Are you using a water conditioner? no but test using a kit

Are you using any filtration? Yes I have a Rena xp x4 filter

What is the basking temperature?
Is there a basking light? Yes

Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? Yes

What kind is it or what is it made out of? Above the tank basking area made from polycarbonate.

What have you been trying to feed it? Turtle pellets and lettuce recently

When was the last time your turtle ate? Feed them this morning and he did not eat. So yesterday morning is the last time I saw him eat.

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 75 gal tank

Is the tank near a window? Yes

Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? Some activity in the morning and afternoons.

Have you read the Basic Care section? Yes

Have you searched the forums for similar situations? Yes

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? He is not active. He is now staying in the basking area and not going into the water.

No not really... At first I thought it was a scratch but now I'm not sure... Around his whole eye ball is swollen. It's not just one area.

This is from this afternoon. Not sure if you can really tell with his head in his shell but around the outside of his eyeball is really swollen.

Whoa! I have never seen anything like that.
I wish I could help. All I can think to say is that vet visit is in order.
A herp vet is best, but for something that pronounced, I think any vet would be better than none.

It looks like the eyeball is punctured. Aside from nails, are there any other pointy things in the tank? Schedule a vet visit as soon as you can.

Oh man, please make sure they are kept separate and find a herp vet ASAP.

I took him to the vet today. It is a really bad infection but the vet is not sure what caused it since he was unable to see a scratch anywhere on the eye. He got a shot. The vet said it would be ok to keep him in the tank. When I put him back in there the other turtle went straight to him and snapped at his eye that is hurt. Does anyone know if the blood on his eye would cause cause the other turtle to snap at him because I have never seen them snap at each other in over a year.

Yep. Separate them if he continues to snap.

It's pretty normal for animals to go after injuries, I'm surprised and disappointed that the vet said it was OK. Most likely you need to find a way to permanently separate them.
