Yesterday I noticed that my turtle Chink has a abnormally large and swollen cloaca. I watched Chink for an hour and noticed that every now and then some fecal matter would start to poke out. Sometimes it was only the tip of it, other times it seemed like it was almost out but then it would go back in. Other than that Chink seems very normal. (S)he basks and eats his/her veggies and protein pellets and swims around. I tried soaking him/her in warm water for 30 minutes but nothing happened. I don't believe that it is impaction because the tank has only large river rocks. There is a large log but I doubt Chink could rip a chunk of that off. Please let me know what you think. I want to fix this before it gets really bad.
Thanks!

Sounds like a penis. You have a male.
Turtles:
Dexter (RES)
Shelby (RES - gone and I feel really really bad).
Miracle (Box Turtle - Given to me after Shelby left us).
Orion (Mississippi Map Turtle).

Can you post a picture?

Better yet, take the turtle in to see a vet. Typically these signs may indicate an constipation, infection, prolapse, or impaction which needs to be addressed by a vet.

I think it might be a penis. I'll watch for any poop and if there isn't any I'll take him in to make sure. Thanks for the advice guys!
