I am sorry to have to post a new topic, but my baby yellow belly Donny is really scaring me! I believe he may have a respiratory infection. At first he was having difficulty eating or building up an appetite, until finally last night he ate a few blood worms. But, now today as I placed some pellets, shrimp, and crickets Donny eased into the water and instead of swimming to the food he kind of just floated along and he was lopsided! As he tried to swim, he did so sluggishly and a few bubbles came out of his nostrils. So having said that, I believe these are signs of R.I. :( Donny does have an appointment tomorrow with the vet, can anyone suggest anything for now??? I would truly appreciate it! Below I posted some pics and answered the important questions...also note that his upper shell is really soft.

Does Donny's shell look like it might have fungus or something else?

Here is Donny just floating

How big is your turtle? About 2inches long. How long have you had it? 3weeks now.

What is the water temperature? It's at 79 degrees Fahrenheit. Did you use a thermometer? Yes. Are you using a water heater? Yes, its set at 78 degrees Fahrenheit as well. How much water is in there? About 8 or 9 gallons. Are you using a water conditioner? Yes. Are you using any filtration? Yes.

What is the basking temperature? IT'S at 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Is there a basking light? Yes. Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? yes. What kind is it or what is it made out of? It's a wood replica log from petsmart AMD a plastic like Lillypad. Is there a UVB light? Yes.

What have you been trying to feed it? Yes, I don't think its feeling well so he's not eating. When was the last time your turtle ate? Last night he had some blood worms.

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? It's a 40 gal indoor aquarium. Is the tank near a window? No. Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? No, not much activity.

Have you read the Basic Care section? Yes. Have you searched the forums for similar situations? Yes, that's why I am assuming he has a respiratory infection.

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? Yes, lethargy, floats at the top surface of the water, not eating, bubbles coming out of his nose periodically, swims a bit lopsided.

I am sorry to have to say that our baby yellow belly slider Donny has passed today around 5:00 pm  I am going to miss that lil guy. We tried everything possible to give him the best chance for survival. This morning we took him to a herp vet and his Dr. had said that he was very ill and maybe had some type of abscess infection. We went ahead and preceded with an injection of antibiotics. I believe the injection was a 50/50, and obviously it was too late! I feel so bad....I want to tell everyone on here PLEASE be careful where you purchase your turtles. We bought ours on turtleshack [not reputable].com and poor lil Donny seemed like he had a bad start in life and probably wasn't cared for properly initially from birth. As soon as we received him, he was very lethargic and didn't eat up until 10 days later after receiving him. On the other hand his brother Leo was very active and full of energy. I don't want to come off sounding ignorant, but I can't help to think that maybe turtleshack [not reputable] balanced out our turtles by giving us a sick and healthy one...R.I.P. to my lil boy Donatello aka Donny  I'm going to miss you :(

So sorry to hear of Donny's passing. At least he had people who cared for him in his life.

I'm very sorry to hear it. Turtle$hack does not have a very good reputation, and I would be wary of buying common turtles online.
