My turtle recently had a penile prolapse that was bitten. I took him to a vet. Good news was the penis did not need amputation. She cleaned it and verified that remaining tissue was still alive. Then she put a suture in. She said to wait a couple of days to see if the turtle can poop.

The turtle had the prolapse for about a week and hasn't pooped since. Its been two days and the turtle still has not. The suture looks kind of tight or maybe its swollen. So question is should I be alarmed he hasn't defecated yet?

I keep him isolated from the other turtles and will buy him a new tank with heater from here on out since I understand that prolapses can reoccur.

Hard to know without actually examining the turtle. Has the turtle been eating? Is he on any meds? Have you spoken to the vet about it?

Yes I have fed the turtle every other day. I talked to vet and she said to keep feeding him. I have an appointment to remove the suture this weekend. However I noticed that he has been kicking his tail more recently. I am just wondering if this is normal after such a surgery. He does seem to ok and has an appetite.

Every injury is different, hopefully he'll be back to normal after the suture is removed.
