i adopted 3 res turtles 2 months ago, one of them has been limping for more than a month. his right hind limb has turned darker and swollen than his other limbs and he is unable to spread his toes while crawling or swimming. there is a hard bump under his feet skin.
there are'nt many herp vets in my city . i have already consulted the only two chelonian specialists in my city and one general vet but they have'nt been of much help. for 3 weeks my turtle was misdiagnosed with infection, muscle injury ,etc and given antibiotics. all of them had ruled out fracture after first visit. a recently taken radiograph has revealed he probably has a fracture . but the so called chelonian specialist vets have given me totally different views on his radiograph. one believes he has a fractured pelvic bone while other believes he has fractured his toe. however they seem to agree on one thing that a fracture in turtles cannot be treated and he will limp for the rest of his life.
I dont think i can trust their words . i really want to help my turtle, i think he's in pain since he has stopped eating and basking after the injury.

Where did you get them? How long are their shells? What's their setup like?

Anyway, I'm not sheep venture if they both said there is A FRACTURE them they are probably right. The description you have definitely sounds like it. He may just need a little special boost and extra care for the rest of his life.

How did he get injured? Has he been separated from the others? The swelling and discoloration you've mentioned is obviously quite serious. Did the vets suggest any type of treatment for the other symptoms?

I got them from a local aquarium store. They are between 6"-8" in carapace length. They were in pathetic condition at the store , in a small tank without filtration and dry area. I have got a customised tank made, but i have yet to find a uv light and thermoregulator.

My 5 year old niece dropped him out of her hands once and this maybe the cause of his fracture . As of now the swelling seems to be gradually decreasing , his limb is functional . the only thing that is not letting him crawl normally is the hard bump under his skin on feet which could be the dislocated or broken bone. He has regained his activity and is eating normally now.
