Brown spots on my RES's back legs. I dont know if this is normal but his skin looks abnormal to me. I introduced a new Baby RED into the acquarium recently and im wondering if i should seperate them?

Are the brown spots bad? is it a skin condition? there is also some whiteness or brittleness i dont know if thats fungus. Also there are no Vets nearby.

Did you use a thermometer? no, my house is pretty hot on its own + the UVB.

What is the basking temperature? ambient is 24
Is there a basking light? yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? yes its wood
What kind is it or what is it made out of?
Is there a UVB light? yes

What have you been trying to feed it? pellets
When was the last time your turtle ate? yesterday

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? not sure

Is the tank near a window? yes
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? yes

Have you read the Basic Care section? searched for it
Have you searched the forums for similar situations?yes

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? no but he seems to be hyper when swimming.

A couple of quick questions: When you say the basking area is 24, do you mean in Celcius? Were the brown spots there when you put the baby in there, or did they develop after? Are you able to separate them, by which I just mean do you have another tank/heater/basking light that you could put one in if you needed to? Does he have areas where his shell looks caved in or is that just the lighting? And finally, is the brown spot you're talking about just under the edge of his shell where his leg meets his body? I can't tell if that's just a shadow or not.

About the basking area, my house is 24 degrees (Celcius) and the lights make it hotter, i didn't check the specific temperatures.

And I don't remember when the brown spots came because with the old basking area i couldn't see his legs properly.

If i seperate them i can put the baby in a little tub for a few days/weeks i don't have another heater/basking tank. I had to ship the set i have from the US.

And there are no cave ins on his shell. His shell isn't the healthiest but he will eventually shed and get better care under this new environment.

And yes the brown spot is where his leg meets his body. It is not a shadow it is exactly like that when you see it in person. It's on both legs. And there is nothing like that on his arms/head.

Hmm, strange. So, is it in the exact same spot on both legs? It might be bruising, or it might be from the other turtle biting him - does the baby have any marks on him? It might be a skin infection of some sort, so you might need to take him out of the water, rinse him, and put some bacitracin/antibiotic cream on the spots, and then put him in a warm, dry place for a few hours to let it soak in. Again, I don't know much about skin issues, so I'll defer to more experience people here.

Is that brown area hard, as in scabby?

I looked again, On the right leg there is a dark brown spot there it doesn't seem to bother him though. On his left leg there is browness but its not really a spot its just spread out and its really light. And on the baby who is two months old i dont see any marks on him. About the rinsing im not too sure but his skin looks flaky i think he may have algae/fungus is there a guide that can properly diagnose?

@Steve It doesn't look very scabby, I'm not really a fan of touching my turtles.

Hatchlings shouldn't be kept with older RES, so I wouldn't keep them together. If that patch hasn't hardened, it could be bruising which sort of reminds me of this recent post... viewtopic.php?f=4&t=33967&p=322744&hilit=bruises#p322744

It doesn't look like that. That spot is red. I think its just normal because its only on his leg and nothing on his neck or shell. And when I introduced the hatching i observed how they interacter and they didn't do anything to eachother. The older one played around but didn't touch him.
