Just found my turtle floating on the bottom of it's tank, so i nudged it and it floated strangely and let out a ton of bubbles, i grabbed him, and he was rigid and sadly had passed. I have no clue why. All seemed well possible slow down in eating, but nothing major. How can i tell if he drowned? What would the possible solutions be to try and figure it out. I know i can pay a vet for a pet odtopsy, but that is expensive.

also, i know as a pet owner you should know why a pet died, i say that all the time, to people but i guess i will have to recant that, as this makes no sense.

I'm sorry to hear it :( Turtles are very good at hiding illnesses and even a necropsy might not provide the answers you're looking for. How old was he?

Sorry for your loss :( A lot of times, animals can hide symptoms of illness very well. Were your two turtles in the same tank? If they were you might want to break everything down and disinfect it just to be safe.

Yes, we had 7 total, now 6 in a 300 gallon stock tank. He was not puffy at all: No wounds, nothing to point at illness: Sadly i think he drowned, i have heard that is RARE for a turtle, but it can happen.

@ steve, he was resqued last year from someone who had no clue about him or how to care for him: didn't even have the correct species! He said he was only 2-3, and we had him for 2 years. he was SUPER young, not even mature yet in my opinion.
