I had her out walking around and when I went to put her back she was keeping her eyes shut. I figured she was just trying to sleep so I put her back and she started swimming around with her eyes shut crashing into things. Its been a few hours and she still won't open her eyes. Should I take her to the vet?

Was anything done to the tank/water while she was out?

Well she was put back in clean water and she doesn't have a filter right now (so we clean the water every day, but we are in the process of getting a new tank where she will have a filter) we haven't tried eye drops, what did you do with them since they wouldn't open their eyes? I wouldn't be able to put them in her eyes...

She's about 8 inches long and the water is just above her shell ( I know her situation is not great right now but we are working on it)

*Just above the top of her shell, so she's fully covered

It could have been the chlorine in the water. How big is the tank?

My guess would be that it's because of the daily water changes. Water changes are stressful for turtles (I've described it as imagine moving your house, packing it up, wiping everything down, and then setting it all back up again... EVERYDAY). If I had to do that everyday, I'd be EXHAUSTED.

When are you getting a filter? That's a pretty important piece.

She's fine now, when she was out she kept trying to get in the heater, so I think when I wasn't looking she stuck her face in the heater and hurt her eyes. Thanks anyways guys :)

Oh dear. I would suggest not allowing your turtle to wander the house when you do a water change - there are many dangers around the house. They would be quite content in a rubbermaid bin while you clean. That being said, you need a filter, pronto!
