Hi there,

I have a baby RES with what I think is an RI. The symptoms began at the beginning of the weekend. He has been sneezing and his eyes are swollen. I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow as all the vets are closed today (I live in Mexico City so I need to take him to the specialist at the university). Meanwhile, I have dry-docked him except for 2X1 hr sessions in a separate tub for feeding and defecating purposes. I have also given him an hour or so in the sun. I have also bought some Scott's Emulsion as that is the closest thing I can find to pure cod liver oil in Mexico. You can see the product here http://www.amazon.com/Scotts-Emulsion-O ... B000GG2KDS.

My question is would it be safe to drop this solution into his eyes as uou would pure cod liver oil? I am worried that the addtional calcium and phosphorus in the emulsion may cause problems.

Cheers

You can drop the oil onto his eyelids. I'd also stop using the Reptisun for now... some of them caused a lot of swollen retile eyes. I don't know about Scotts Emulsion, specifically the phosphorus content. But since this is not being ingested, it might be worth a try.

Cheers Steve,

He's been to the vet and she has advised the same thing so he is down to 4 hours a day now and 20 min bath in vitamin A powder for 2 weeks. Hopefully he's going to be okay - still has a voracious appetite and seems to do everything else normally.

Yes but I cut it down form the vets reccomendation of 4 hours to 2 hours as the oher turtle is fine. He actually seems a little better now. Maybe the Vit A baths are just taking time to work?
