On my 2in RES's shell, towards his tail all along the back, there is a lighter area that gets darker and it's brown. Also, there was little white dots all over his shell that I got off with a toothbrush, and in the middle of his shell on the spikes, it's white. Everything just showed up today, and I'm a first-time turtle owner so I don't know what all this means. Is he just growing? Anyone who can help I'd really appreciate it.

Sounds like it could be fungal. Pictures would help alot.

It won't let me upload the pics, he's basking alot more now though, and the white dots haven't came back

It looks like it might just be dirty. What's his setup like? (Size, filtration, etc).

He has a 10 1/2in L x 6in W x 8in H cage. The cage has a light above it, and no filtration. I'm working on saving money to get him a bigger cage, along with filtration.

Filtration could be a big issue with dirt and health of the shell. If you don't have a filter are you doing water changes daily?

Try a gentle wipe with a damp paper towel first.
