We have a baby RES, with some eye infection/disease. It began with the left eye swollen and moved to the right. Both eyes are now very swollen, have a white film around and over eyes. The turtle has stopped eating and is lethargic, we know the turtle cannot see. This has been going on about 2 weeks. We first began with Vitamin A eye drops. Then took him to a local vet who suspected bacterial/fungal infections & prescribed antibiotic ointment (neomycin & polymyxinB sulfates...). After 4 days the eyes were much worse. Vet called a doctor (herpetologist) at a university for further help but no response yet. I have attached photos of his eyes. We are desperate for treatment to help our turtle.

Are you keeping him out of water? Dry docking may help dry out the infected area so the ointment has a chance to work. Also, I don't know if you can give antibiotic injections to a turtle that small, but it seems with infections that severe, injections are usually more effective. I'm so sorry your little guy is sick. Hopefully the herpetologist calls back and has some advice, though a herpetologist isn't necessarily trained in animal medicine. You may want to look for an exotic vet in your area.

I don't think I've seen an eye infection of this type as severe before. First, I would try a soak in diluted Pedialyte, so he gets some nutrients. Stop using the UVB for now and can you can him some direct sunlight? I wouldn't use a water conditioner either, do you have some carbon filter media to remove chlorine?

I agree with Kurtni, you might want to search for a herp/exotics vet in your area.

Thanks for all the recommendations. Unfortunately, the infection had gone too far and we lost Fred today.
