I noticed these very tiny thread sized worms wiggling around in my tank just now. This is the first time I noticed them, also this is the first time I gave them frozen food for turtles. I'm not sure where the worms came from, my guess is the food but I have no idea. They've been trying to eat the worms. How can I get rid of these worms? Will they hurt my turtles?

What was the brand of food you used?

The brand is Healthy Herp, aquatic turtle food, I'm pretty sure the worms are planerIa or dimitrus worms. They squiggle and are of various lengths but never bigger than half an inch. It's near impossible to snap a worthwhile picture

Here's a picture of one of the worms, sorry about the motion blur this worm is probably a 1/4th of an inch. I'm not 100% sure it's a planaria worm because these don't seem to have an arrow shaped head, just like wiggling thread.

Ok so after doing plenty of research I've decided I've got nematodes hopefully they are not pinworms, pretty sure they aren't, but found this just in case.

Does anyone know if this will be safe for my turtles?

I should mention, these worms are not in my rocks, But are hanging onto my driftwood, and while there maybe poop debris around my tank there isn't any food, the turtles always eat every last drop of the food that I give them.

Anyway, I plan on doing a complete water change and cleaning of my tank, filters, and soaking my driftwood in extremely salty water overnight.
any other ideas would be great, thanks.

Clean everything thoroughly and replace the filter media. Feed your turtle in a separate container to reduce the amount of food for these things. If it continues, I would consider setting up your filter to pump through some very warm water or diluted bleach. I wouldn't treat something without knowing exactly what it is and we also try to avoid chemicals on this forum.

UPDATE: Soaked wood, filters, completely cleaned the tank all with 10% bleach solution. Got rid of all the worms, ruined a new shirt in the process, the victory was bitter sweet. I noticed 1 only 1 in my nearly empty tank. Ive only seen it once, hopefully Gooby ate it by now. I left the wood out this time, despite it being cleaned in bleach, I don't want to deal with the tannin anymore, and got rid of the pebble rocks. Everyone's happy and my tank looks fresh and clean.

Thanks for the update. I think 10% might have been a bit strong, though obviously effective :)
