One of my RES has his nail bitten off in what I believe was a mistake for food rather than aggression ( they were eating and have never seen them be aggressive towards each other, I know their behavior as I watch them often) anyway I noticed the nail wasn't bitten down into the finger, there's a little piece of nail left, it's a little red but definitely not bleeding. Here is a picture http://imgur.com/ax7M7 I hope it will grow back, will it grow back, or is it severed too far? I feel bad for the little guy.

Thanks,

I can't tell much from the picture, though if the nail bed is intact, it will grow back.

I'll take another picture of it when I take him out of the tank, that way it'll be easier to get close up on his left hand.

Penelope recently broke a nail (no clue how) and it seems like has gone on like normal...
so...if it does NOT look like the example someone provided to me, then it should be OK.
A better picture would help though...

It's been about a month, looks like it may still be healing, it does not look rotted away like that picture, it's slightly brown at the end, unfortunately it doesn't look too bad, but I'm not sure there is enough nail bed to grow back, it may just be a matter of time.

I should also mention, I noticed a small spot on the side of his neck by the back of his jaw, which looks slightly browner in color? I haven't noticed it till now so it must have happened very recently. I would ave noticed a day or two ago otherwise.I will try to get a picture. His eyes don't look swollen, has a voracious appitite, and he is just as active as ever. I don't know if I should worry, again, I'll try to get pictures soon. His tank temp is 81-82, basking 90, otherwise seems completely healthy ( I know turtles may try to hide their sickness)

are you referring to the discoloration about 3/4 down the larger stripe extending from the side of the eye? I see a brownish area, but it is very difficult to decipher - is is raised or look like an open wound? I'm not an expert, but if he is acting normal, I would say just keep an eye on it.

I've seen them pop up once in a while, not too sure what they are. They usually go away after a few days.
