Urgent Care :: Turtle Left Eye Problem

Turtle left eye trouble appears to have white spot or growth on the left eye ball. The eyelid is NOT swollen. Turtle blinks or closes that eye more frequently and slowly – almost winking.
Female Golden Reeves turtle, that lays eggs frequently.
Eye appears wet in photos because Zoo- Med eye drops were applied.
Right eye appears to be healthy.

How big is your turtle?
• 5” long 3.75” Wide
How long have you had it?
• 20 years

What is the water temperature?
• Not sure
Did you use a thermometer?
• No
Are you using a water heater?
• No
How much water is in there?
• Gallon and a half water
Are you using a water conditioner?
• No
Are you using any filtration?
• No

What is the basking temperature?
• Not sure 100 watt bulb above on one end on tank
• Is there a basking light?
• Yes 100 watt
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on?
• Yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of?
• Rock pebbles
Is there a UVB light?
• No
What have you been trying to feed it?
• Diet:
Tetra Fauna ReptoMin - mainly,
Sardines in water - occasionally,
Lowfat Cottage Cheese - occasionally, maybe too much lately before eye trouble appeared,
Salmon - occasionally,

When was the last time your turtle ate?
• Today no appetite problem

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure?
• Tank: 12 X 36 inches - 2/3rds of which is rocks & pebbles, 1/3rd holds a water container. Heat lamp above.

Is the tank near a window?
• No
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity?
• Yes

Have you read the Basic Care section?
• yes
Have you searched the forums for similar situations?
• yes

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms?
• Turtle left eye problem. Seems healthy otherwise. NO signs of trouble breathing or any respiratory symptoms like congestion or mucus. Appears to be eating normally

• Trying: Zoo Med Repti Turtle Eye Drops: Vitamin A & Vitamin B-12 in a saline and oil base. Day 5. Does not appear to be changing much.

• Tried: 1% Silver Sulfadiazine Cream in both eyes twice a day for 18 days - does not appear to be helping or changing much. Prescribed.

Hi Mark, from what it sounds like, I think it might be a cataract or injury. It would be a good idea to have a good herp vet check her eye out since there has been little change.
