Good day,

I am a new member. I purchased 2 RES 7 years ago, the other on die in 2009. I am an amateur in handling turtles so I just took care of the remaining turtle inside a 10 gallon tank. Today it lays an egg. I can't imagine that it is possible that a turtle can lay eggs without a mate.

What should I do with the egg. Please Help me! Everybody love my turtle especially my daughter who is the same age of my pet.

Thank you.

Hi, welcome to the site. The egg will be infertile, so you can just throw it away. You might want to measure it and take a picture of it next to a ruler for future reference.

Good day Steve,

Thanks for the info.

Is it normal for a female RES to lay eggs even without a mate? Is she having problems?

Thank you.

It is normal, though there is no certain information on when/why it happens. It would only be a problem if she can't successfully expel the eggs or if she has overactive ovaries.
