How big is your turtle? 5 inches
How long have you had it? 7 years

What is the water temperature? 78 F
Did you use a thermometer? yes
Are you using a water heater? yes
How much water is in there? 30 gallons
Are you using a water conditioner? yes
Are you using any filtration? yes

What is the basking temperature? 90 F
Is there a basking light? yes
Is there a basking platform that is easy to climb on? yes
What kind is it or what is it made out of? Tetra 25905 Decorative Reptile Filter/plastic
Is there a UVB light? yes

What have you been trying to feed it? Zoo Med Gourmet Aquatic Turtle Food
When was the last time your turtle ate? 2 weeks ago

How big is the tank/pond/enclosure? 40 gallon wide
Is the tank near a window? no
Is the tank in a room with a lot of activity? sometimes

Have you read the Basic Care section? yes
Have you searched the forums for similar situations? yes

Is there any other unusual activity/symptoms? he always sleeping and barely swims or basks.

Note: it is Winter time here and has been snowing heavy here in Boston, Ma.
My concern is if he is trying to hibernate?
This is the first year that he has these symptoms.

*His usual behavior is always active and spends majority of his time in the water swimming.
He would bask daily for a couple of hours.
He has not done any of this for the past 2-3weeks.

He is fed pellets/dry shrimp/dry worms/dry cranberries every other day.
Amount is about the size of his head.
He is fed inside his tank and any left over food is removed after he is finished.

I'm afraid he is starving and don't know what to do at this point.
I'm asking for any help with this situation.

Thank you! :D
William

Very nice looking turtle. Have you tried other foods/treats/live prey?

Thank you Steve.
I have tried romaine lettuce, tuna & melon, but he always preferred the Zoo Med Gourmet mix.
He just all of a sudden stop eating...when I put the food into the tank he just stares at it as if he was afraid.
He use to go "nuts" when it was feeding time...splashing like crazy!

Not sure what to do. :(

Last night I left the heater off for a few hours so the water would reach room temperature around 65-70 degrees F and this morning I plugged it back in.
I did this to see if he would react to the temperature change...I guess it worked since he has been periodically climbing up on his basking platform to bask.
He is more active too.
This is a good sign compared to him constantly sleeping in the corner of his tank.

I've not tried feeding him yet, but will see later today if he eats anything.

I would like some more advice if possible.

Thanks!

Steve, I have not.
What would you recommend?

Is it "safe" for him not to eat for such a long period of time?
I've read that RES can maintain a diet that can last for a month or even longer...isn't that usually when they are in hibernation period?

I just want the best for this lil' guy!

I appreciate all the help.

If he's healthy, then he should be OK but his lethargy is a bit of a concern. Is there anything he might be eating that you're not seeing? Try a couple of rosey red minnows, hold them by the tail if necessary. I would research vets in your area in case he needs to be examined.
