I've had my turtle for a few weeks now, it was unexpected so I wasn't able to get a proper tank until recently. I noticed before getting the tank that there was a section on her shell that was turning black. I thought things would be okay once I get the proper equipment but I've seen no improvement, in fact I think its getting worse. It has other areas turning black now too, and the original black patch looks like its peeling. I tried doing some research and assumed it was shell rot, I've been keeping my turtle out of the water for a few days now to let it dry and I've been applying hydrogen peroxide but it doesn't seem to be improving. I'm not even really sure that it's shell rot, it doesn't quite look like the pictures I've seen online, I'm so confused. Please help!

Can you post pictures? It's too small to be melanism and dark scutes can sometimes be scar tissue. It sounds serious, I would look up some vets when you have the time.

Possibly an infection. Might want to try to regular recommendations (gentle scrub with diluted Betadine or Hibiclens and dry dock. An antibiotic like Silver Sulfadiazine cream is worth a shot.) Since it's spreading and looks aggressive, I highly suggest you have a vet take a look.
