Hi!
New mom here. Taking over for my daughter's 2 year old RES. Leo is his name. Very friendly and like being out of his tank. I'm just learning the do's and don'ts. This guy has a huge personality. Thanks for all the great advice. My vet recommended this site!

We found ours in our garden and we've had it for about a week now. It's settling in well. I don't know how much water to put in its tank. It's a baby RES and I am very excited to have it, as I have always wanted a turtle!

How big is your tank? Do you have basics... filter, heater, uvb and basking lamp?

I have a 10-gallon tank. I have no filter because there is very little water in the tank. I have a UVB and Basking Lamp I also have a place for it to sit on out of water but I don't know how much water needs to be in it. My turtle is almost 2inches in size so he/she is very small.

A filter is necessary... the kind depends on how you want to keep your turtle. We normally follow a "gallon per inch" guideline.... so a 2 inch turtle gets a 20 gallon tank.

We want to keep him small since I heard they grow to the size of their tank

That is not true. Stress/bad diet can stunt their growth. A conservative diet should yield steady growth.
