Hi Im going to hong kong in a few months, are there many good shops that sell good (Cheap) Aquarium equipment? A name of a shop and a street address would be really helpful.

Your help would be appreciated.

Hi and welcome.

HK is one of my favorite places, I' ve been there quite a few times.

I have to say, though, that the street (Tu Yuen or something like that) that caters to the tourist trade and is filled with shops that sell fish and baby turtles is one of the most heartbreaking places I've ever seen.

On a brighter note, Kadoorie Gardens has some of the biggest and meanest RES I've ever seen.

There is a steet in Mongkok (Kowloon side) called the Tung Choi Street, locally known as "Goldfish street" that has the things you maybe interested in. But just as marisa said, it may be a heartbreaking place for people who love animals as the environment is not quite pleasing

... Imagine tens of baby turtles packed in a plastic basin... That's where I got my own RES.

Yes, that is the street I was talking about. I remember picking up a fake log and walking around one store with it when I came to a plastic case filled with tiny RES in dirty, shallow water. Some were crawling around aimlessly with their eyes covered with white. Several on the bottom were obviously dead. None looked in decent condition. I brought the dead ones to the attention of one of the clerks. He picked up one, looked at it briefly and tossed it back in with the others, telling me the turtle was "sleeping." He was amused because I was upset to tears. Indignation will get you nowhere. I voted with my wallet and put down the object I had intended to buy and walked out. I can't believe that place is billed as a tourist destination...

If one is looking for quality aquarium equipment at a decent price, I don't think it gets any better than shopping on-line.

I have been to Hong Kong once before so I have a little bearing, I did not own my turtles then so I didnt go looking for any turtle stuff, Thanks for everyones help I'm sure I will pick up some good deals on Aquarium equipment.

Probably just some spare UVB neon tubes, they are really expensive in NZ and I will see what the Filters are like. But we are going to a few other countries in asia before HK so I will check out what prices are like in the other countries.
