I got this turtle from a friendand need to know what type of turtle it is?

Hard to tell, possibly painted wood turtle or spot-legged wood turtle (Rhinoclemmys punctularia punctularia)

thanks Steve probably going to google both of them right now and do some research on them. if I find out more about what kind of turtle is he so I can take better care of him I will let you know. by the way I'm new to this forum, I have a red ear slider turtle had her for about 3 to 4 years now and I do take pretty good care of her.

It's the same turtle, it just goes by different names. I hope it helps, and welcome to the forum!
