As far as a top goes I wouldn't buy the regular top that comes with tanks. I also wouldn't buy a screen. Screens block too much uvb light. You can use metal shelving cut to size.

Ok cool i do also have a clamp to have the lights so maybe i just wont put a top on she never tries to climb out of the tank I just think she needs more room to swim and move around

You can also use plastic egg crate/light diffuser. You can get it at hardware stores. It comes in different colors. Grey, black white. Its easy to cut to size and cut holes for hoses etc. Also comes in metal if you prefer.

We try to fill the tank as full as we can. Turtles love to swim. In that case a top is needed.

There are so many different options for basking areas I can't really recommend just one. Have you thought about building an above tank basking area. Aka~ATBA. Fluval makes good filters. Bigger is better when it comes to filters. Also the bigger the tank you buy the less you will have to upgrade in the future. Take a look on Craig's list for tanks.

If you do go with a 55 gallon I would wait for Petco's 1 dollar a gallon sale. But you might find one cheaper on Craig's list. I was just looking today in my area cl and seen a 90 with stand for $ 100. It came with everything. Not a bad price at all.
