Post Posted: Sat Dec 03, 2005 1:37 am   hello from the palmetto state!

hey! my name is jamie. i've had a RES for almost three years now - since my freshman year of college. i live in on-campus housing at my college, so i have a fun time hiding sheldon's tank from the residence life people, because technically i shouldn't have a turtle. i like to tell people he's a goldfish with an identity crisis.

anyway - hi!

Welcome to the forum... :) Your the second or third person I've heard that has a goldfish with an identity crisis. :D Must be real interesting keeping him hidden. What's his setup like? How long is he?

thanks for the welcome, everyone! i was browsing the forums last night and i discovered that his 10-gallon tank is woefully inadequate, since he's about 3 1/2" long. so i'll be trying to fix that as soon as possible. i've been very careful since i got him to make sure that his substrate was always too big for him to swallow - those are weathered shells that my fiance and i picked up off the beach where we met, for his tank. here's a close-up of my baby - sorry it's blurry - the flash scares him, so i try not to use it around him.

I feel your pain...I also have my RES in a ten gallon tank which I am not allowed to have. Since I have to move him often I have a rather simple setup. Light, Filter, rocks to climb on and out of the water and some room to swim. I know this is not the best but she is thriving.

That's a very interesting pattern on the side of his head. :)

I thought I was losing it there for a minute. I didn't see the link to the pic but kept seeing you all refer to the pic. Finally found it. lol

He is an interesting turtle, such pretty markings. :)

thanks for the compliments! he has some really beautiful markings and coloring, the camera just doesn't do justice to it at all. (especially since he hardly ever stays still long enough for me to take a picture without the flash).

sorry about the confusion with the links.

I too am stressing over keeping my RES in college. I'll be leaving for the dorms in August and I have no idea what I'm going to do with Veronica. I'll probably try and adopt her out to someone in-state who has experience with turtles.

I don't know how strict the dorms are about only having "a ten gallon tank with fish". Although I do have another tank with my fish in it...it is my turtle that I have grown more attached to.
