I got a BABY box turtle today! I was so bummed because I was supposed to get a Russian tort, and that fell through, but then an acquaintance's box turtle eggs hatched! So, no I didn't steal a wild baby I found, it was captive bred. It's whole shell is maybe the size of a quarter. I think it's maybe a week old. They only came out of the ground yesterday, but there was no yolk sac or egg tooth so it probably stayed underground and used up the yolk before it dug up to the surface. It's shell is filthy and caked with dirt!

It's soooo cute, and I even got it to eat a little baby food off my finger!

Pics later, I want to give him/her a little bit to settle into the habitat before I go flashing a camera in it's face!

he keeps burying himself, that's normal for a baby right?

I was looking at the baby some more, and he/she actually does have an egg tooth and a mark where the yolk sack was. I couldn't tell because he was covered with dirt! but I gave him a soak in a SHALLOW bowl of water. I got him to take 3 tiny meal worms. He's buried himself in the dirt for the night now.

It's absolutely normal for him to be burying himself. I'd have to dig mine up a few times a week for feeding because otherwise I'd have never seen him.

He seems to be doing good! He's eating and everything, the only thing is he will only eat tiny meal worms yet. he shows no interest on the baby food someone told me to try, or the defrosted bloodworms. Anything else I should try?

I still can't get mine to eat pellets or anything and he's 4 years old. He's still on either live food or fruit/veggie salads.

Try small earthworms, horn worms, butter worms, silk worms, crickets. Also make sure his food is dusted with vitamin/calcium powder a couple of times a week.

Does he have a name yet?

He sure is a cutie! His shell looks great and all.I see a white spot on the top of his head.Shedding or just the pic?
As per feeding, it's important to get him to eat commercial food now, or he will never get into the habit of doing so like jenaero said.
