Box Turtle and Tortoise Discussion :: Price of turtles..

A general forum for those with an interest in land-based turtles.

I had gained an interest in Box turtles recently and reseached a fair amount :) So, we went to a reptile expo in Missasauga just a few days ago and spotted a few turtles :)

I remember there were leopard turtles, red foots, sulcata, and a few other species of land turtles. However, they were so darn expensive :(. I'm asking is $250 CND resonable for a hatchling sulcata, or red foot? I believe leopard turtles were $300. There were also larger ones for sale around the same price. Is this a good price? ( Yes I would love to adopt one but, these turtles are very rare to find here)

There were some of these turtles (2 or 3) also in local classifieds but, they were also around the $250-$400 price range.

p.s. We didn't want to leave the expo empty handed so we got a baby red-belly and some food there :)

Those prices are crazy. Go to kingsnake.com , in the classified and you can get almost anything...a lot cheaper.

Those prices are normal for Ontario. I paid $350 for my 3toed box turtle.. I've never seen a redfoot under $300. I have since found a cheaper source for boxies. I can find out if others are cheaper if you dont mind a drive to the niagara area

If you are in the Toronto area, there's Market Village next to Pacific mall in Markham.

There is an aquarium pet store on the 2nd floor. The store sells land turtles there but I think they are probably overpriced. I didn't pay much attention to the land turtle prices when I was there but I did see that they are selling several $2000-$3000 fish. But their baby RES were priced at $8 each or 3 for 20.

I probably wouldn't bother calling unless you know fluent Chinese. I haven't been to any PJ's Pet Centres in the area but that might also be an option too.

Also, that is a nice price for RES :)

I went to a local Big Al's store and they had RES for $29.99.
