An Ornate boxie.

It was a large garage sale day in my town, so i went with friends to ride bicycles and just chill, but last night I saw that a turtle was going to be for sale with habitat on craigslit, but it was a listing for the gargage sale. so I went to check it out.

Anyway, I went in, saw the turtle and habitat, that was it, I wanted him/her haha.

So here i am, with a new ornate boxie. The best part, I only paid $45 bucks for him and his habitat haha :D He's 3 1/4" right now, and he is not shy At ALL. He hasn't ducked his head in once since I brought him home. Even handling him, he's extremely calm and has a lot of "personality" I guess you could say.

He just ate a Waxworm too!!
Here's some pictures of the little dude/dudette

He needs a good shed, but other than that he seems pretty good, and a little white spot on his shell, which looks like healed over exposed bone.

The local pet store that's moving had a box turtle that looks almost exactly like that and was for free. Someone dropped it off to them. The were trying to convince me to get it. I would if I had stuff already that I could use. They had it in a glass 20 gallon aquarium and I asked them to maybe cover up the sides and they stuck a cardboard box inside that he could hide in.

It looks like a female to me. Males have a red iris, while in females the iris is light brown. What kind of habitat did they give you? She is really nice looking.

Wow! thanks for the sexing Terry!

Alright, so the Habitat is 15"Wx31"L. Kinda Small, But nicely built. It has a hide, with removable top. It'll do for now. Currently, Until I get some Lighting, I'll be taking HER outside for some sunshine everyday.

The pictures are taken with my blackberry so they arent that great haha And the screen I put on top is removed for the pics. I am going to make a top out of left over eggcrate in a little bit.

No, she can't get out. It's more from protection of anything falling into the tank and for holding the lighting.

Thanks.

OMG I'm so jealous! I remember when I was 9 I was given a Chinese box turtle. He was sick and I was a noob back then so I gave him away. I still remember his name too... Speedy because he always tried running away haha.

Btw very cool turtle!

Very cute little guy. Looks like someone was taking pretty good care of him. A good care sheet can be found on ATP. Btw, boxies don't shed.. I didn't know this at first either :-)
