Box Turtle and Tortoise Discussion :: safe plants?

I just got a baby eastern boxie, and as I was decorating her enclosure today I realized I have a trillion plants I need to bring in for the winter and wondered if I could transplant some in her enclosure.

I also know it will help keep the humidity up for her. Now I can't tell you the names of the plants, because I'm plant stupid, but what I've always heard one of them called is a "spider plant" and the other is a vine type plant. Both you can break off adn they will root and grow virtually anywhere. I think they'd be great hiding places for my little boxie, I just want to make sure they won't be toxic to her.

Any ideas are welcome I have had an eastern before so I know the general care requirements, but I could always use any suggestions.

ok so I found this http://www.anapsid.org/mainplants.html and it tells safe and toxic plants, except I don't know the name of the vine...

I thought the link could possible help others though.

Yeah, that anapsid website is an incredible wealth of valuable information for reptile keepers. And her listing for plants is really extensive. The vine plant you mentioned is most likely a Pothos plant as they are very common and easy to propogate. They are considered to be unhealthy due to their oxalate content which is an irritant to the animals digestive tract. It can also be toxic for certain animals too. Plants in the Dracenae family (Dragon trees) are fairly common and also easy to propate and are pet safe too. Most of the palm type plants are also supposed to be safe, but check the lists just to be sure.

Look at this site. His set ups are great, and he tells you what plants to put in the vivariums. There are loads of pictures too. I copied all my boxie let ups from him.
