La, Ca, baby res turtles mistreated...

I live in la, cali, and i know this place called chinatown, ( the place where i got my baby res) and they sell tons of baby res, but sadly mistreated... About turtles 1 inch and the water lvl is only like one-half of a centimeter... They are sold in 2's and in very small cages... I feel sorry for the little guys... All they feed them is pellets...

Aren't they just sold for food? Sadly, when animals are sold for meat, they're usually treated very poorly. Not much we can do about it except not support them. Don't go there and buy a couple thinking you're saving them because they'll just be more to replace them.

I agree, businesses usually operate under the "supply and demand" scheme, if there is a market for something, they will provide it.
If you don't buy from them, they won't have turtles to replace.
I know that it may only feel like a drop in the bucket, but enough drops will fill the bucket.

The Chinatown in NYC has the same thing going on (and most likely there are areas like that in other major cities as well). Those little babies I think are sold on the black market pet trade, and most people can't resist trying to help/rescue them. There are periodic "raids," but nothing ever comes of it ultimately. But you could try contacting your Dept. of Environmental Protection or similar state agency and let them know. Maybe they'll be more receptive to doing something about it.

In my area, I've found that reptiles aren't as highly regarded by them as all the cute fuzzy dogs and cats are.

The SPCA is an option. We know they certainly are animals and deserve the same things all animals do, they so often receive the short end of the stick...

They should. but people always get it before researching, or consider the costs and responsibility and all... Only for kicks, thats all...

My hatchlings came from Chinatown in LA as well. They were a gift, but they did arrive as a pair in a tiny little container, so I know exactly what you mean! Very sad to think of all the little turts who must die in those hellish conditions! I'm so happy to have my babies, and hope I can give them the great home they deserve and need to grow and thrive.
