Everytime I come into the room and look at him he will swim frantically at the back of the tank and seem petrified. I know he is scared of me but will he get overt his or what???

If you just got your turtle,it may take sometime.Mine eventually got over the uneccesary fear of me eating them lol.Now whenever they see me they beg and beg for food, its so hard not giving in sometimes! Give your turtle some "alone time" cover the sides of the tank with a blanket,it will make him feel more comfortable thats what i did and a couple of weeks later, they turned out to be brave little beggers.

You have to realize that to them we are HUGE monsters coming to eat them. It takes a while for them to get comfy around us.. and sometimes depending on the nature of your turtle it never does. Some are just shy and paraniod :)

I have had mine for about 6 months, and one is still skitty, and the other can be, but other times he swims right up and stares at me or begs.

It's very normal when a little turtle gets into a new environment. You are a big scary huge person coming to get him (or so he thinks!). Try some hand-feeding, but don't give up if he doesn't take the food from your hand right away. This is the best way to teach them that you are not scary.

My guys are very comfortable with me, especially at feeding time and even when I am feeding my tropical fish (live in seperate tank) they would excitingly swim toward me, as if I were to feed them!! Lol The only thing my turtles think about is FOOD (I don't overfeed them)!! The never were scared of me. Shea would be on the basking island and she would stare at me and wink at me.... = P lol hmmmm...............

Wow, you must have shy turtles!! =)

On the other hand....Shea doesn't like to be handled that much. Although, she may not bite, but she will hiss. Uggghhh!! =/
