what do turtles look at for like 8 hours? they just sit there and look up at the sun. is the lighting always going to be on?

I'm not sure what you mean by what do they do for 8 hours. The sleep, eat, swim, and bask.. that's pretty much all a turtle ever does. I'm not quite sure what you expect them to do. As for the lights, you should keep them on to mimic daylight.. if the sun is out for 10 hours.. keep them on for 10 hours.. if it's out more or less.. the adjust the time accordingly.

Again, I'm not sure just what you think they should be doing..

They are just chill while catching some uvb rays..

Not like they can read a book while they do it ..

They do exactly what we all would do if we never had to work because someone was taking care of us all the time: we'd probably just lolly-gag around, take a nap periodically, swim a big, then lay in a nice warm sun ray & take a nap! LOL!
