I've read on here that turtles are solitary animals that prefer to be alone.. is that right? or can they benefit from having a "friend" in the tank with them? heh

i think my 110 gallon tank can handle two res for now?

what do you guys think?

I personally don't think two turtles is a good idea. Regardless of space, there's always a chance they'll fight due to territory. Being solitary, they don't care one way or another if there is another turtle in the tank so you may be better with just George. And another thought is eventually even a 110 gallon tank will be cramped with two turtles...

meg is right.. two turtles could potentially mean that you'd need two complete setups. If you want another turtle for yourself that's one thing, but don't think the turtle you have needs a "friend"... :)

You would have to quantine the new turtle for 90 days after getting him, so that would require a second set up. Just another thought to throw out there. I have two turts, and love them both, but if I had to do it again, I'd only get one.

My turtles have been getting along lately for the most part. They have their spaces in the tank that they claim, but so far so good. I suggest only one.

I've got one RES in a 110-gallon stock tank and he's appears content. True, if the turtle's are small, the size tank you have would accommodate them. But at some point you'll have to upgrade. Adding a new turtle (after quarantining) into another's territory (established tank) can be an invitation to a territorial dispute. Your turtle really doesn't need a buddy.

I would suggest only one, especially since you have a nice big tank which would accomodate only 1 adult RES anyway. I just got done responding to the "aggressive turtle" thread with my own personal story about that. So check it out!

I have an adult RES, and believe me, she is a BIG girl! They don't need company in the tank with them. One turtle will always end up bullying the other turtle.
