although they are called red eared, I dont know if they really have ears, or just some sound sensors under their skin?

yes they have ears. But not like mammals or humans.

if you look at their heads, in front and below the orange swash of colour you will notice an almost perfectly roundsection of skin. can't find a betterway to explain it. if you just look there you'll notice just this round section where it looks like an absence of face bone.
