sooo...all this time ive been thinking i have 2 baby red eared sliders, well.... all the other hatchling res pics ive seen here all have red ears already... mine dont. they are more of a yellow or orange. I bought them from a pet store that "just got them "in"" and i was told that they were res, but now im thinking they could be something else. Anyone else have yellow eared sliders? Or am i just overthinking the whole thing?

It would be more helpful if you posted pictures along with your post.

I can't be sure until I see some pics, but it sounds like you may have some yellow bellied sliders on your hands. :)

EDIT:

Here is the differince...

Yellow bellied slider...

Red eared slider...

Very close, but as you can see the "ears" have to be very yellow to be a yellow bellied slider.

When I was buying supplies from the pet store a while ago, I noticed that one of their turts had a yellow "ear". I'm not really sure if it was an RES but had a hunch that it was one because pet stores only have RES around here.

I might get him next week when I finally get to plan and implement my current turt's new home. But anyway, I am also wondering whether RES can have yellow "ears"... sounds kinda stupid 'coz the called red-eared for a reason but could some have that "yellow ear" gene?

I'm pretty sure we dont have yellow bellied sliders being sold in petshops here in the Philippines. Also, the RES here come in batches... usually from a single clutch and all the other hatchlings had red ears. Maybe a result of a recessive gene?

Not all RES have "red" ears. The color can range from more orange to a deeper reddish-brown color. Some RES don't have red ears at all.

That turtle is so cute in the pictures! But yes, it is a slider, yellow ears and all.

Mine has orange ears. They don't all have red ears.
